Mechanical Engineering

Bachelor programme "Mechanical Engineering" is a shorter form of higher education, oriented on practical professional profile of graduates. Graduates of the bachelor’s degree programme acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to address the many and varied tasks not only in mechanical engineering but also to hold technical posts in industry, institutions, schools, business and services.

Standard duration of the study programme is 4 academic years.

Bachelor programme “Mechanical Engineering“ of standard duration of 4 academic years is the first stage of the so called structured study programme which aims to enable a follow-up studies of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programme. Bachelor programme is divided into 4 fields and all can be studied as part time or full time programme.

At the end of Bachelor Programme “Mechanical Engineering” students take final examination which aims to check the overall quality of knowledge and results achieved. The programme is finished by a State Bachelor’s Examination which includes defence of bachelor’s thesis. The academic title “bachelor” (Bc.) is awarded upon graduation by passing the State Final Examination and defence of the Bachelor’s thesis.

The graduates of the programme “Mechanical Engineering” may continue studying in any of the follow-up master’s degrees upon passing entry exam.

Fields of the programme

Energetics and process technology

Tutors: prof. Ing. František Rieger, DrSc., doc. Ing. Michal Kolovratník, CSc., doc. Ing. Pavel Novák, CSc.

Graduates focused on energetics will be prepared to deal with practical problems in various fields of energetics – from the design through construction to operation of power machinery (boilers, turbines, cooling equipment, heat pumps, machines for compressing gas, hydraulic machines, etc.). The graduates specialized in energetics will find suitable jobs in department of energetics in companies as well as in energetics for civic amenities and in project and technical teams of professional energetics organizations. Graduates specialized in process technology will find suitable jobs mainly in the chemical, food and consumer (glass, plastics, paper, etc.) industries and in companies focused on designing and manufacturing machinery and equipment for these industries. Increased knowledge in process technology will be also applicable in gas and wastewater treatment, in biotechnology and in processing renewable sources of energy (biogas and ethanol).

Information and automation technology

Tutor: Ing. V. Hlaváč

Graduates will gain knowledge of the fundamentals and means of automatic control, information technology, technology of instrumentation, programming languages of microcomputers and applications. Students will learn about the operation and database systems and computer models. They will complete technical and electrical measurements and design exercises. Graduates will find suitable jobs in various sites of production and technical sections or research in design, operation and adaptation of control systems, information systems and systems with elements of advanced instrumentation.

Environmental Engineering

Tutors: doc. Ing. Vladimír Zmrhal, Ph.D. doc. Ing. Tomáš Matuška, Ph.D.

Graduates of this field of study will be professionals in design, implementation and control of equipment which affect the internal environment in buildings, development and production of components for heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. Graduates are trained to complete tasks regarding design, construction and technology. This field of study provides students with broad knowledge of design, construction, planning, technology, installation, operation, measurement and evaluation of environmental machinery, ventilation, heating and air conditioning equipment, alternative energy sources, separating devices and equipment for protection against noise. Graduates can work in construction of machine and equipment for environmental engineering, in planning air conditioning and heating systems but also for example in the supply and implementation companies as well as operating and service areas and they can hold various posts in investment departments, in hygienic service, in departments of environmental protection within State Administration. Suitable jobs might be also in trade and technical consulting or representation.

Computer supported construction

Tutor: doc. Ing. Václav Bauma, CSc.

This field responds to current demand of industrial sector for special training of graduates of bachelor programme with regard to the future career of graduates with such specialization in the Czech Republic and abroad. Graduates are prepared for the general design of engineering systems with computer support in the field of design and computation. The subjects of theoretical fundamentals and theoretical preparatory courses will provide students with further knowledge that will help them to master tools of design with support of all common computer tools. Students will also gain further knowledge in experimental testing of machines and components and thus will be prepared to solve practical problems especially in the area of steel structures.
